Our Open Farm Weekend took place on 13th & 14th June rather than the national Open Farm Sunday date of 7th June
Back in June, we opened the gates once again for our fourth Open Farm Weekend, combining it with our monthly Farmers' Market to create one of the biggest community events we've ever held at Solsgirth Home Farm.
We honestly couldn't have imagined the response.
Over the two days, we welcomed more than 1,000 visitors to the farm. Seeing so many families, friends and first-time visitors enjoying the countryside together made all the hard work worthwhile.
A Weekend Full of Activity
Visitors enjoyed guided and self-guided farm tours, met our livestock, admired vintage tractors and machinery, watched demonstrations and explored everything a working farm has to offer. Alongside the farm activities, our Farmers' Market brought together an incredible collection of local producers, makers and food businesses, creating a wonderful atmosphere and showcasing the very best our local community has to offer.
There was something for every generation, from children discovering farm animals for the very first time to visitors keen to learn more about conservation, biodiversity and modern farming.

Thank You
Events like this simply don't happen without an enormous amount of support.
Thank you to everyone who came along, whether you travelled from nearby or from further afield. Thank you for your enthusiasm, your questions and your encouragement throughout the weekend.
A huge thank you also goes to our exhibitors, market traders, volunteers, demonstrators and everyone who gave up their time to help make the event such a success. Your passion and generosity helped create a welcoming atmosphere that visitors repeatedly commented on.
We were especially pleased to hear how much people valued the opportunity to experience a real working farm, with many families telling us it was their first ever visit to one.
Why We Continue to Open Our Gates
One of the greatest rewards from Open Farm Weekend is seeing people leave with a better understanding of farming.
Modern farming isn't always visible to the public, so creating opportunities for conversations about food production, animal welfare, biodiversity and caring for the countryside is incredibly important to us.
Every question asked, every child who met a farm animal for the first time and every family who discovered more about where their food comes from made the weekend worthwhile.
Why Open Farm Events Matters
Open Farm events are about far more than just a day out.
Across Britain in 2025, over 200,000 visitors attended events at 271 farms, helping people better understand farming, food production, and the environment. The feedback from last year’s campaign showed just how important these events are:
94% of visitors said the event increased their understanding of farming with nature
92% said the experience increased their trust in British food and farming
23% of visitors had never visited a farm before
For many families, it’s their first real connection with the people and practices behind the food they eat.
One visitor described the experience by saying:
“The amount this farm gave back to the community today was incredible. We came away with a renewed interest in farming & environmental matters.”

Our Farmers' Market
Our Farmers' Market was once again a fantastic part of the weekend, bringing together a wonderful range of local producers, makers and small businesses. It was great to see so many visitors supporting local and discovering the fantastic food, drink, crafts and seasonal produce on offer.
If you're a local producer, maker or small business and would be interested in having a stall at one of our monthly Farm Markets, we'd love to hear from you.

Looking Back
As I write what will be my final blog for Solsgirth Home Farm, it feels fitting to look back on such a memorable weekend.
Seeing over 1,000 people enjoying the farm, supporting local businesses and connecting with agriculture reminded me exactly why events like this matter.
To everyone who has supported these blogs, visited the farm, attended our events or simply followed our journey over the years, thank you. It has been a privilege to share the stories of Solsgirth Home Farm and to help showcase the wonderful community that surrounds it.
I know the farm has many more stories to tell, and I look forward to seeing it continue to thrive for years to come. Here's to many more successful Open Farm Weekends in the years ahead!
