HILLSIDE HOUSE
HILLEND

Sleeps up to 17

Seven bedrooms

Set in 14 acres of private gardens and woodland, Hillside House is the kind of place that makes you instantly exhale.  A beautiful 17th century country house full of character and charm, it’s the perfect location for family gatherings, reunions with friends, or simply a well-deserved break surrounded by peace and greenery. Currently sleeping up to 17 guests, soon to be 19, across seven beautifully appointed bedrooms, this is a home where comfort and style come together effortlessly.

Step inside and you’ll find plenty of space to relax and reconnect. The drawing room is a picture of period elegance with its bay window and wood-burning stove - perfect for afternoon tea or evenings by the fire. The cosy family TV room invites movie nights and laughter, while the sunroom opens straight onto a walled garden that’s safe for both children and dogs to explore.

At the heart of the home, the breakfasting kitchen is a dream for cooks and coffee lovers alike, with an AGA, granite worktops and a big central island where everyone naturally gathers. It flows through to the formal dining room, ideal for long, lazy dinners that stretch into the night.

Upstairs, the house continues to charm with flexible sleeping arrangements. Six spacious bedrooms offer views over the gardens and woodland, including two family rooms with extra singles. The former Maid's Quarters in the East Wing adds even more flexibility, with its own en suite and a private sitting room, perfect for grandparents or guests who appreciate a little quiet space.

We are adding a ground level bedroom for two later this year. This will allow 19 people to stay with us. There will then be five bath/shower rooms, with two ground floor wc’s.

Hillside House offers fully accessible accommodation, with a range of living aids available to help guests enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay. Our newest ground-floor bedroom has been designed with accessibility in mind and features two single beds, which can either remain together as a superking bed or be split into two singles if required, providing additional flexibility for families and groups with differing needs.

Outside, Hillside House is pure countryside bliss. Wander along woodland paths, admire the rolling valley views and soak in the hot tub as the sun sets. There’s a barbecue hut, plenty of outdoor seating, and lawns for picnics or games. Whether it’s a summer evening barbecue or a winter getaway by the fire, this house adapts beautifully to every season.

Just a short drive away, you’ll find the pretty villages of Powmill, Saline and Dollar, plus Knockhill Racing Circuit for a dose of excitement. With Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling and Dunfermline all within easy reach, Hillside House offers the perfect balance - a peaceful rural retreat that’s never too far from the action.

STAYING AT HILLEND

Set in beautiful countryside, Hillside House is the perfect location for a holiday.

At our nearby Solsgirth Estate, guests can also choose from our large Farmhouse, the cosy Farm Cottage or Butler’s Flat, the elegant Dower House and the historic Coachman’s Lodge. Mix and match properties for larger groups to enjoy time away together.

The local area has some beautiful walking routes, including Dollar Glen, within a few minutes of Solsgirth Home Farm, with the Lomond Hills in Fife around 40 minutes drive away.  You can access coastal walking along the Firth of Forth within 20 minutes, and take in sections of the 185km long Fife Coastal Path, passing the historic village of Culross and quaint fishing villages in what is known as the East Neuk.

We are surrounded by history, with the strategic positioning of Stirling and the River Forth has led to historic battles being fought on our doorstep. In every direction you will find castles and palaces, stately homes and their beautiful gardens, owned by Historic Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland and some privately owned but open to visitors.

The central part of Scotland includes many family visitor attractions, including the RSPB reserve at Loch Leven and Blair Drummond Safari Park. Recent developments alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal include The Helix ecopark, with the majestic Kelpies, the world's largest equine sculptures at the centre. Further long the canal is The Falkirk Wheel, the world’s first and only rotating boat lift – walk alongside it, journey through by boat or try out one of a range of watersports and activities available.

Golf fans will find themselves only 30 minutes from the world-famous Gleneagles, and an hour from the renowned St Andrews Old Course, with many others in between where you can arrange a game. And whisky lovers can discover Scotland’s national drink for themselves with many distilleries open to visit for tours and tastings.

Stirling Castle

Solsgirth Home Farm is located just outside the village of Dollar, and we are perfectly located for visiting several Scottish cities, with Stirling only 30 minutes away, and the cities of Perth, Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh all within one hour’s drive.

Our local city, Stirling, has plenty to visit, including its Castle and the Wallace Monument, which both offer amazing views of the surrounding area. Another small local city is Perth which blends combines its ancient roots and historical past with independent shopping and lovely river and park walks.

The UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, Dundee is home to V&A Dundee, RSS Discovery, McManus Galleries, and the Beano characters of Dennis the Menace and Desperate Dan.

For bigger cities visits, choose between Glasgow’s striking architecture, contemporary art spaces and fascinating museums (many of which are free), or the festival city of Edinburgh with its medieval Old Town, Royal Mile and Castle, as well as the Scottish Parliament and Dynamic Earth visitor attraction.
